Your Michigan Memories:

  • Kristin from California writes...I love living in California...but Michigan is where it all started. It is where I was born and where my roots will forever be....click here to continue this memory!

  • The Late Freda Kauffman of Fairview wrote in her auto biography shortly before here passing....There my third sister Cleta was born. We had company often and life seemed good. Dad rode a motorcycle to his work in Kneeland. Letha started school at Biggs. I was thrilled to be allowed to visit a few times. Eventually I was allowed to start primer class in the spring. Books thrilled me, and I am sure that I learned to read there. I enjoyed the sights and smells and noises of school...The boiled eggs in lunch pails, the murmur of classes in session, and the fun of learning and drawing pictures. ...read on........

The Amish life is a big part of the Michigan landscape. The horse and buggies are everywhere...especially where I grew up in Northern Michigan. Barbara Yoder of Chase, Michigan lived that life...but decided when she was still a teen to leave the strict order with her husband Eugene. After doing so she began writing the book FINDING THE WAY. It's a book about growing up as a young Amish girl. It's fiction but is based on Barbara's experience. It makes for fascinating reading for Adults and children alike. The book makes for some wonderful reading on a brisk fall day in front of the fireplace.
